It is universally accepted that “Good managers are made, not born.” It is a combination of experience and development that creates managers who can communicate, motivate, and empower others to achieve their full potential. Managers at all levels exist to coordinate the efforts of people and resources in ways that yield profit, opportunity, and flexibility. Communication is a manager’s primary responsibility. When a manager fails to communicate, decision making is impaired and efforts are wasted. Good communication involves knowing what message to give and when and how (and how often) to deliver it. Performance Management is about tracking performance against targets and identifying opportunities for improvement, i.e. managing for results. Performance-based management at any level in the organisation should demonstrate that: you know what you are aiming for. Development of individuals and teams is necessary for the development and growth of the organisation. People working as a team are capable of achieving far more than individuals simply working together |
